Dog License

It shall be unlawful for any person to own a dog or dogs within the corporate limits without first obtaining a dog license. No license shall be required for dogs less than six months old. Licenses must be secured and renewed annually, no later than April 1 of each calendar year. To secure a dog license the following information is required:

* Rabies certificate from a qualified veterinarian
* License fee $10.00. Note: License renewals received after May 1 of each calendar year will incur a late fee of $15.00 per dog.

Regulations

  • Dogs are not permitted to run at large
  • Dogs must wear a collar around their necks displaying the city license and rabies tag
  • It is the responsibility of the person in possession of the dog to remove dog excrement from property not owned by the individual
  • No more than two dogs may be licensed per residence/owner

You can license your dog one of the following ways:

  •  Online
  • In Person: St. Joseph Government Center, 75 Callaway St E
  • By Mail: Send to City of St. Joseph, 75 Callaway St E. St. Joseph, MN 56374. A tag will be mailed back to you.
